Grants

We are happy to announce that for the 8ICP the International Association for Paratuberculosis are supporting two types of grants: The R.S. Merkal Memorial Fellowship is aimed at supporting graduate students and includes the opportunity to present the research at a 25-minute keynote presentation. The Helping Hand fellowship is aimed at broadening the international representation by supporting attendance from countries not considered high-income. Below You will find all details for these grants.

R.S. Merkal Memorial Fellowship

According to the laws and by-laws of IAP a R.S. Merkal Memorial Followship will be awarded by the Association for two graduate students to attend the Colloquium. Selection of these individuals will be by an ad hoc committee appointed by the Governing Board and based on need, potential for future contributions to the field, and scientific merit of submitted abstracts to 8ICP. Funding will include air fare, lodging, general registration, and a per diem for meals. All applicants must be members of the Association or sponsored by a member of the Association. It is expected that winners will present their work as a 25 minute oral Keynote presentation. The fellowship for the 8ICP will not be open for Danish applicants.

 

In 1994, the Association established the Merkal Fellowship to help fund the participation of a graduate student at each Colloquium of the Association.   The Governing Board has appointed a committee with members with a wide range of expertise in paratuberculosis and from various countries to evaluate the applications.

 

Program specifications:

In 2005, one or two awards will be granted depending on the number and quality of applicants.

Each award will include:

•  Full registration for the 8ICP including lunch packages, City Hall Reception and Colloquium Dinner.

•  Return advance purchase economy airfare from the fellow's nearest airport to Copenhagen.

•  Accommodation in Copenhagen during the Colloquium at Cab Inn Scandinavia, including breakfast.

•  A total per diem of DKK 860 for meals while in Copenhagen (Sunday August 14 through Thursday August 18)

Criteria:

 

•  IAP Membership
Applicants must be current members of the Association or be sponsored by a member of the Association.

•  Country of origin .
Applicants will be considered from all countries except the host country, Denmark.

•  Statement of purpose .  
The applicants will be assessed on their written submission (in English) justifying consideration for the Fellowship, including an abstract of their proposed oral presentation, details of their interest, experience and current research in paratuberculosis and the potential for future contributions by them to paratuberculosis research or control.  

•  8ICP abstract .  
Winners are expected to give a 25 minute oral keynote presentation based on the submitted abstract at the 8ICP. Abstract guidelines are found at the 8ICP website: http://www.8icp.dk/ under the heading “authors” and must be submitted according to the 8ICP dead-lines. Please indicate the title of the submitted abstract and under which 8ICP Theme it was submitted on your application

 

 

International Association for Paratuberculosis

 

 

Helping Hand Fellowship

 

The International Association for Paratuberculosis announces a new fellowship program in association with the 8 th International Colloquium on Paratuberculosis (8ICP) being held in Copenhagen Denmark, August 14-18, 2005.   The fellowship is designed to help people not normally able to attend the ICP in order to broaden international representation at the meeting, and to help disseminate new knowledge about paratuberculosis.  

Program specifications:

Up to 10 awards will be granted based on the number and quality of applicants.

Each award will include:

                        1) free full registration for the 8ICP

                        2) free IAP membership for 2005 and 2006

                        3) US$500.00 for travel expenses (payable on arrival at the 8ICP)

                        4) certificate.

Criteria (listed in order of decreasing importance):

•         Country of origin.   Strong preference will given to applicants from countries not considered “high income” based on the website of the World Bank http://www.worldbank.org/data/countryclass/countryclass.html .
•         Statement of purpose.   The applicant must provide a written statement (in English) explaining their interest and experience in paratuberculosis, what they know of the paratuberculosis situation in their country, and why they would like to attend the 8ICP.
•         8ICP abstract.   An abstract for a poster presentation at the 8ICP concerning any aspect of paratuberculosis is highly desirable but not mandatory to qualify for this award.   Abstract guidelines are found at the 8ICP website:   http://www.8icp.dk/ under the heading “authors”.
