It is a
sincere pleasure for us to invite You to participate in the 8th
International Colloquium on Paratuberculosis in Copenhagen, Denmark,
from August 14-18 2005. We are proud to have been chosen as hosts
of this conference and it is our sincere hope that we will be able
to provide a good environment for yet another fruitful meeting of
the “international paratuberculosis society” under the auspices
of the International Association for Paratuberculosis. It is our
hope that not only new and experienced scientists in the field of
paratuberculosis, but also a number of local veterinarians and cattle
health advisors will attend the colloquium. We also hope that a
spirit of mutual inspiration between scientists and practitioners
will build up during the week.

Denmark
has a long experience with Johne's disease dating back as long as
the work of Dr. Bernhard Bang in 1906. Later, other prominent Danish
paratuberculosis researchers such as Dr. Berg Jørgensen have
been contributing to the diagnosis and understanding of this important
disease. Today, a century after Dr. Bang's detailed work, Denmark
is faced with a significant paratuberculosis problem with a high
number of infected herds in the dairy industry. Consequently, an
increasing attention to this disease has become apparent among Danish
farmers, veterinary practitioners and researchers in the past decades.
The colloquium
will be held at the workplace of Dr. Bang, The Royal Veterinary
and Agricultural University in Frederiksberg, close to the centre
of Copenhagen. The University holds excellent facilities for a small-scale
international conference like ours with an atmosphere of both inspiration
and tranquillity in the beautiful garden and among the new and old
University buildings on the 14.5 hectares campus.
The year
2005 also marks the 200th birthday of the famous Danish storyteller
Hans Christian Andersen. Go to the Hans
Christian Andersen 2005 webpage to find the latest details on
the celebration and find out how you can make the most of your stay
in Denmark.
We hope
to see many both new and familiar faces at the 8th ICP in Denmark
in August 2005.
